Wolfgang of Shackleford, also known as Baron Wolfgang, is a recurring character in the Swords and Sandals series. Once the lowly first champion of the Doomtrek arena, this Shackleford scoundrel would eventually become the leader of the Free States of Braxis during the Crusades.
Backstory[]
The third son of a minor lord, he drank away his inheritance and found himself living as little more than a mercenary. Drawn to the Arena by the lure of fame and fortune, he rose to prominence quickly. After his defeat at the hands of the Unnamed Gladiator(you), he continued to fight, until he happened upon a noble but troubled young knight known as Sir Belgrave of Drakondier. Belgrave saw potential in Wolfgang and petitioned him to fight for a greater cause.

Wolfgang is the first Arena Champion of the original Swords and Sandals.
Defeating him rewards you with his weapon, the Shamrock, which does 5-19 bashing damage.
Swords and Sandals: Crusader[]
Now a Baron, Wolfgang is a playable leader in Swords and Sandals: Crusader, leading the Free States of Braxis.
Swords and Sandals IV: Tavern Quests[]
Baron Wolfgang is featured inside of SaS 4: Tavern Quests, as another player in the tavern. His clothes are slightly different now, as he has an ear piercing and brown peasant (also known as noob in gladiator) gauntlets.
Swords and Sandals: Pirates[]
Baron Wolfgang is a playable Captain, representing the Free States of Braxis.
Trivia[]
- Both HeChaos and Baron Wolfgang are meant to be author surrogates (self-inserts) of Oliver Joyce.
- According to Oliver Joyce, "Baron Wolfgang" is based off his younger years when he used to drink heavily and act impulsively.
